Doug Berry

Doug began his employment with Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. on a part-time basis while he was attending the University of Toronto where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies in 1997. After spending some time living in Taiwan, Doug returned to Canada in 2003 and become a full-time broker. He is licensed for property & casualty insurance as well as life insurance. He is currently working towards his CIP. Doug is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Ron Berry, FIIC

Ron has been the President of Merit since its inception in June 1981. He has enjoyed an extensive career, both on “company side” working with Commercial Life and Zurich Insurance, before taking the helm at Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. Ron is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada (F.C.I.P.) and has completed the two year Life Underwriters course. He has served on the Brokers Advisory Council of General Accident Insurance Company and is a past Chair of the Economical Mutual Insurance Company’s National Broker Advisory Council.
Ron is a passionate and accomplished water-skier and avid baseball player. He and his wife Maria live in Flamborough.
Maria Berry, CIP, CPIB

Maria joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1981. She obtained her RIBO license in 1984, her unrestricted license in 1993 and earned her C.I.P. in 1989 and C.P.I.B in 2007. Maria is currently Vice President of Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. and is directly responsible for the operation of the Waterdown office.
Patrick Brennan

Patrick began his insurance career with Mutual of Omaha and later Prudential of England in the early 1960’s. He obtained his general insurance license in 1965, and built a portfolio of business that was sold to J.M. Dickson in 1989. Patrick joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. as part of that brokerage in 1994.
Paul Dahlin, BA, FIIC

Paul graduated from the University of Guelph and worked in senior management positions for three major insurance carriers. He joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in December 2001. Paul has his Life license and also has an unrestricted RIBO license. He is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Paul and his wife reside in Cabbagetown.
Susan Doble, CIP

Susan acquired her RIBO licence in 1989 after beginning her insurance career in 1986. She joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1992 as part of the Toronto Insurance Brokers acquisition and obtained her AIIC in 2006. In addition to providing commercial support for Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. Susan also processes Traders General and Pilot applications for the brokerage.
Conrad Kipping

Conrad started in the insurance industry as a captive life and general agent in 1979 with the Sovereign Group of Companies and joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. at its inception in 1981. Conrad has an unrestricted RIBO license and a Life license.
Conrad resides with his wife and daughter in Uxbridge.
Dijana Kunc

Dijana graduated from Sheridan College in 2003 and joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc as an Underwriting Processing Clerk. Diana is also responsible for processing our new business applications. Dijana obtained her RIBO License and is working on her CIP designation.
Priscilla Lascano Muere

Priscilla’s 30 years of experience in both general and life insurance earned the trust of her clients and friends. She started building her business portfolio with Multiline Insurance in 1986 and joined Merit Insurance brokers Inc. in 2005 for a wide variety of markets and stable opportunities. Priscilla is a Business Administration graduate of Philippine Woman’s University.
Priscilla, her husband and 4 children have been residents of Markham for over 20 years. She is an active member of MFFC-Markham Federation of Filipino-Canadians
Sally Lascano Rifol

Sally attended the University of Santo Thomas in Manila. She immigrated to Canada in 1982 and began her insurance career in the Life Department for Plan Estates Insurance Brokers. Sally proceeded to become the Office Administrator at MultiLine Insurance Brokers before joining Merit Insurance Brokers Inc in 2005. In addition to her experience in Life Insurance, Sally also holds her RIBO license.
Courtney MacGillivray

Courtney joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 2007. She is a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team in the Equestrian sport of Combined Driving since 2004. She is also in the process of completing her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph, and obtaining her RIBO licence. Courtney's current role with Merit is to provide support in the administration department, the processing new business, endorsements and provide commercial business support.
Kathleen Magisano

Kathleen has bookkeeping experience gained in both a financial institution and a property management company. She joined the brokerage of Harrison & Chamak in 1980 and became licensed that year. She joined J.M. Dickson in 1990 and became their Office Manager. As part of the J.M. Dickson brokerage, Kathleen joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in November 1994. She currently manages Merit’s largest commercial account.

Greg Parker

Greg was employed in the transportation industry as a Regional manager for a major courier company before joining Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 2007. He has obtained his RIBO license and is progressing towards obtaining his life license.
Greg and his family have lived in Waterdown for the past 12 years. He enjoys coaching his 2 sons in Hockey and Baseball.

Chris Piper

Chris worked with Guardian Insurance and The Hartford in an accounting function before joining Merit in 1987. Currently she works in the brokerage’s life department. Chris is also responsible for the processing of all our endorsement requests.
Chad Schmiedge

Chad joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 2007. He has obtained his RIBO license and is working on his life licence. He currently works out of the Waterdown office. Chad has an extensive knowledge of farming and standard bred horse training and still trains a few of his own horses on a part time basis.

Roneth Rifol Gementiza

Roneth studied Accounting at Centennial College and began her insurance career in 1996 with MultiLine Insurance Brokers as a Customer Service Representative. She obtained her RIBO license in 1997. Roneth joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in July 2005.

Mary Jane Rivera, CIP

Mary Jane joined Merit as a full-time employee in 1994 and acquired her RIBO license in 1996 and her CIP in 2006. Born in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, Mary Jane is fluent in Tagalog. Mary Jane provides support to the Underwriting Manager in the processing new business and endorsement. She also produces and services her own book of business.
Suzanne Salloum, BA, AIIC

Initially Suzanne was a part-time employee while attending York University and joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. on a full-time basis in 1989 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She obtained her RIBO license the same year. Suzanne was appointed Office Manager in 1999.
Ray Saranovic

Ray attended the University of Belgrade before moving to Canada and completing a business course from Seneca College. He started his insurance career in 1969 when he became a life insurance agent working with both National and Equitable Life. He obtained his general license in 1970 and founded Raysar Insurance Agency. In 1985 he became a principal of Polsar Insurance Brokers and merged with Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1995.
Ray is fluent in Serbian, Russian, Albanian and Italian.
Glen Smith

A farm and livestock insurance specialist, Glen is a 20 year veteran with a broad agricultural background. He joined Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in May 1, 1999 and in the process was instrumental in the opening of a new branch office in Flamborough which relocated into Waterdown in 2006.
Glen is well known throughout North America for his champion “6 Horse Hitch” team of Clydesdales that have been shown competitively at prominent events such as the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto and many state fairs in the USA. He also had the honor of showing his horses in PEI at the Gold Cup and Saucer Parade in 2002. He is past president of the Canadian Fieldsman of the Canadian Angus Association and of The Rockton Agricultural Society. He is also past chairperson of the 4H Queens Guineas.
Barb Swimmer, BA

Barb is a graduate of the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Arts with a History Major. She obtained her RIBO and Life licenses in 1983. Barb attained her unrestricted RIBO license in 1993. Barb joined her father at the Lou Swimmer Insurance Agency in 1983. She became a full partner in Lou Swimmer Insurance in 1990. She joined Merit Insurance brokers Inc. when she and Lou merged their brokerage with Merit in July 1995.
Lou Swimmer

Lou opened the Lou Swimmer Insurance Agency in 1952, successfully operating in both life and general insurance in the Bathurst and Glencairn area of Toronto. He merged his brokerage with Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1995.
Lou celebrated his 55th anniversary in the insurance business in February 2007.
Carolyn Vickers, C.I.P., C.P.I.B.

Carolyn gained her experience as a personal lines underwriter at Wellington Insurance Company prior to joining Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1989. She became RIBO licensed in 1990, and became the brokerage’s first full time underwriter. She attained her CIP in 1995 and her CPIB in 2007. Carolyn was appointed Underwriting Manager in 1997 and Merit Insurance Brokers Inc.’s Principal Broker with RIBO in 2003. She was appointed Secretary-Treasurer in 2005.
Roger Williams

Roger was employed in the computer systems industry and worked as a systems coordinator for Real Time Insurance Systems (C.G.I.) before joining Merit Insurance Brokers Inc. in 1990. Having obtained his RIBO and Life licenses, Roger has a special interest in motorcycles, boating and the Hospitality Industry.
